Many people have asked for an update on the Community Center. While there has been a lot of meeting and visioning, other work is moving slower than anticipated.

Exterior stabilization work has really just gotten underway. Tuck pointing is almost complete and next will come roofing, gutters, soffit and rebuilding chimneys for historical preservation. The rear porches will be rebuilt and windows replaced. Old Town Revitalization Company has named the building “Old Town Center” so we will need to begin training ourselves in that name. We will continue to work with our partners to name the ministry that happens here, so it will be referred to as: (FUMC Ministry or whatever the name) at Old Town Center.

At this time we are anticipating occupancy by mid to late June. Don’t forget the work day scheduled May 7 where we will begin the demolition and clean up. It will be the first of many days to come and it is exciting to begin.

We have met with our committed partners, First Presbyterian, Grace Episcopal and Central UCC and we continue to invite others to join us. Their task is to be specific in what they will offer to the Old Town Center, whether in money, time, or furnishings. Their deadline is June 1. There are several groups in the community that are meeting around poverty issues and there is a growing awareness as to how this community center could be a resource to be drawn upon by those groups. We are leading the way into a new thing. Praise God from whom ALL blessings flow!
